This work package aims to investigate whether, how, and to what extent different infection intensities and genetic variability of both parasite and vector impact upon the efficacy of malaria Transmisison Blocking Vaccines (TBV). It also aims to continue in the search for new candidates for TBV. Work towards these objectives will be conducted using robust laboratory systems as well as field isolates of the human malaria parasite P. falciparum. The work will involve the development of scientific infrastructure at the field sites in Burkina Faso and Uganda, as well as research projects based at the European and African TransMalariaBloc institutions.
The team leader for Work Package 3 is Dr Robert E. Sinden.
